Conventional Protection Systems

Corrosion protection of difficult to treat objects with a complicated form such as flanges, valves, T-joints, pipe bends, pipe elbows is usually an awkward and time consuming matter, however the flexibility of 3pinc products makes applications much easier.

For pipeline protection against corrosion a range of materials are employed. Pipelines, undergrounds tanks, risers, flanges, man hole covers, valves are often made of metal, metal compositions and such objects are subject to corrosion since they are in contact with salts, moisture, water and other corrosive components.

Corrosion obviously must be avoided since it is detrimental to strength and must therefore be prevented to extend the life cycle as long as possible.

Requirements for Long Term Corrosion Prevention

To prevent long term corrosion, protection materials must have long term chemical, physical, mechanical and thermal stability. As is well known in the industry the application of such materials is often a laborious, time consuming an expensive process.

The materials must have a good adhesion to steel and polyethylene, polypropylene, fusion bond epoxies. Another requirement is that the permeability for water, salts, moisture must be low. Examples of such conventional materials are bitumen and synthetic, thermosetting resins. These materials have the disadvantage that a hard coating or seal is produced which can easily split or tear under the influence of mechanical stress. Another disadvantage is that volatile solvents are required on application.

The development of 3pinc has put an end to these conventional problems.
